The Overseas 42040 is the original 1996 expression of Vacheron Constantin’s sports watch: compact, angular, and rather different from the broader Overseas models that followed. Its 37mm case and distinctive bracelet give it a close-fitting character that enthusiasts often seek out specifically—not merely as a smaller substitute for a later generation.

The notched bezel already carries the Maltese-cross theme, but the bracelet predates the more overt cross-shaped links introduced with the second generation in 2004.
