The Vacheron Constantin Overseas is a family united by its Maltese-cross-inspired bezel and integrated-bracelet silhouette, not by a single diameter or movement. Its three main generations offer distinctly different experiences: the compact, relatively restrained originals, the broader and more assertive second generation, and the more adaptable collection introduced in 2016.

The Overseas debuted in 1996, with the automatic 42040 and, later, the Chronograph 49140 establishing its early vocabulary. The 2004 redesign brought the sculptural, cross-shaped bracelet links familiar today. References such as the 47040, Chronograph 49150, and Dual Time 47450 belong to this second chapter; their solid casebacks contrast with the exhibition backs found on many later models.

For the 2016 generation, quick-release bracelets and straps made changing the watch’s character a practical part of ownership. The 4500V introduced the in-house automatic caliber 5100, while the Chronograph 5500V uses caliber 5200. The Dual Time 7900V adds a second time-zone hand and day/night indication. Beyond these everyday configurations, the Perpetual Calendar and Moonphase Retrograde take the same recognizable design into more elaborate mechanical territory.
