The Tudor FXD Chrono takes the fixed-lug idea somewhere few chronographs go: a carbon case built around a strap, rather than a bracelet waiting to happen. It’s a large watch with surprisingly little heft, and that contrast is a good part of its charm.

The choice is less about generations than purpose. The blue Alinghi Red Bull Racing, reference 25807KN, arrived in 2023 with sailing-team branding and a nautical character. The black Cycling Edition, reference 25827KN, followed in 2024; its dial carries a tachymeter tailored to cycling speeds rather than the usual motorsport scale. Both use Tudor’s automatic MT5813 chronograph movement.

Those fixed bars deserve attention before buying: conventional two-piece straps won’t fit, and there’s no bracelet option. Make sure the pass-through arrangement suits you, and pay attention to the carbon around the bars and case edges—chips there are a different proposition from ordinary scratches in steel.

What owners love

  • The carbon case makes the FXD Chrono surprisingly light for a 43mm chronograph. Owners often find it more comfortable than its dimensions suggest, especially on the fabric strap.
  • The matte carbon case gives it a distinctly different feel from Tudor’s steel chronographs. Owners who like it appreciate the subdued, slightly textured finish rather than a lot of polished surfaces.

Common Criticisms

  • The fixed strap bars limit your strap choices: conventional two-piece straps and bracelets aren’t an option. A pass-through strap also adds material beneath the case, which can make an already substantial watch sit higher on the wrist.
