The Tudor Black Bay Pro brings the fixed-bezel GMT back to its tool-watch roots: brushed steel, a yellow 24-hour hand, and a dial that gets straight to the point. Its 39mm footprint feels restrained, but the tall case gives it a substantial presence that’s worth trying on before committing.

Introduced in 2022, reference 79470 takes obvious cues from the early Rolex Explorer II, while snowflake hands and Tudor’s distinctive luminous markers keep it from feeling like a replica. The original black dial has the more subdued character; the opaline-dial version, introduced in 2025, offers a brighter face with dark outlines that sharpen the hands and markers.

The MT5652 lets you jump the local hour hand independently without interrupting timekeeping—a useful distinction if you actually travel with your GMT. On bracelet, Tudor’s T-fit clasp provides tool-free adjustment; make sure its sliding mechanism operates cleanly, particularly if you expect to use it throughout the day.

What owners love

  • The 39mm case and relatively short lugs keep it manageable on the wrist, even though it isn't a slim watch. Owners often find it wears better than the thickness figure suggests.
  • The matte black dial, yellow GMT hand and brushed steel bezel give it a distinctly utilitarian look. The raised luminous markers are a particularly nice detail, and the dial is easy to read at a glance.
  • The independently adjustable local-hour hand makes changing time zones straightforward without stopping the watch. On the bracelet, the T-fit clasp is another frequently praised feature: you can adjust the fit during the day without tools.

Common Criticisms

  • The roughly 14.6mm thickness is the recurring complaint: there's a lot of case beneath that 39mm dial. Some owners find it top-heavy or awkward under a close-fitting cuff, despite liking the footprint.
  • The bracelet's decorative rivets divide opinion. Owners who dislike them tend to see them as unnecessary vintage styling on an otherwise straightforward, modern-looking watch.
