The Tudor Black Bay 41 name spans two distinct expressions of the same design language: rotating-bezel divers and cleaner, smooth-bezel watches, both recognizable by their snowflake hands and bold hour markers. The useful distinction is not simply bezel or dial color, but generation: similar-looking watches can differ substantially beneath the dial and on the wrist.

The early diver references in the 79220 series pair an ETA 2824 movement with Tudor’s rose emblem and curved “self-winding” text—the enthusiast’s “smiley” dial. The succeeding 79230 generation brought the manufacture MT5602, a shield logo and straighter dial text. More recent Black Bay 41 METAS divers use the Master Chronometer-certified MT5602-U and a slimmer case profile than the preceding manufacture generation.

The smooth-bezel branch follows a different path. The 79540 strips away the dive bezel while retaining the snowflake handset and familiar dial layout. Its successor, the 79680, introduces a manufacture movement, more rounded case contours and a five-link bracelet with Tudor’s T-fit clasp. These are everyday sport watches rather than bezel-free copies of the divers.
