The Tudor Black Bay 58 brought the Black Bay’s snowflake hands and vintage dive-watch styling into a 39mm case that feels noticeably slimmer and more settled on the wrist than its larger siblings. Introduced in 2018, it takes its name from Tudor’s 1958 dive watch, but its following owes as much to those proportions as to the historical nod.

The original black 79030N is the warmer choice, with gilt-colored dial details and a red bezel triangle; the blue 79030B, introduced in 2020, swaps that palette for cool blue and white. Both use the MT5402, so choosing between them is largely about character rather than mechanics. On these references, pay attention to bracelet fit: the original rivet-style bracelet has conventional clasp micro-adjustment, not Tudor’s later T-fit system. If you’re between settings, that distinction can matter more in daily wear than the dial color.

What owners love

  • The 39mm case and relatively slim profile are what owners keep coming back to: it sits close to the wrist and feels much less bulky than the larger Black Bay divers. It is comfortable enough to wear all day without constantly noticing it.
  • The black 79030N has warm gilt detailing and a red bezel triangle that give it character without making the dial busy. Owners who prefer a cooler, cleaner look often particularly like the blue 79030B.
  • Owners frequently report steady, accurate timekeeping from the MT5402. The firm, precise bezel action is another small detail people appreciate after the initial excitement has worn off.

Common Criticisms

  • The original bracelets on 79030N and 79030B lack on-the-fly clasp adjustment, and owners sometimes struggle to get a comfortable fit as their wrists swell during the day. The clasp's three adjustment positions help, but changing them requires a tool.
  • The bracelet's decorative rivets are a recurring gripe: some owners think they look contrived and would rather have plain sides to the links. They are a styling choice rather than a functional benefit.
