The Swatch MoonSwatch Mission to Moonshine Gold puts its twist on the chronograph seconds hand, not the case: a coating of Omega’s Moonshine Gold alloy against the familiar grey-and-black Mission to the Moon design. It’s a small change with an outsized effect—the warm gold hand gives the otherwise restrained Speedmaster-inspired dial a new focal point.

Introduced in March 2023, the first version had a plain gold-coated hand; subsequent releases brought decorative motifs tied to the full-moon calendar. Choose the original for the cleanest expression, or a decorated version if that tiny distinction is the attraction. The coating isn’t solid gold, and beneath it this remains a quartz MoonSwatch, not a mechanical Speedmaster. On a used example, pay particular attention to the exposed acrylic crystal and the chronograph hand’s return to zero: both matter more in daily use than the lunar theme.

What owners love

  • The Moonshine Gold treatment is confined to the chronograph seconds hand, so it adds a small gold accent without changing the black-and-grey Mission to the Moon look. Owners who like the restrained version appreciate that it isn't a gold-coloured watch.
  • It's remarkably light for a 42mm watch. The familiar Speedmaster-style dial and case shape are there, but it feels much less substantial on the wrist—in a good way if you want something easy to wear.

Common Criticisms

  • The crystal picks up scratches easily, and owners often find that ordinary daily wear leaves visible marks sooner than they'd like.
  • The gold detail is small enough that it can feel underwhelming in person. Because it's on the chronograph seconds hand, it normally stays parked at twelve unless you run the chronograph.
