Speedmaster First Omega in Space Gen 1

39.7mm Consistent Pricing

The Speedmaster First Omega in Space Gen 1 brings the early, straight-lug Speedmaster silhouette into a watch you can wear without the concerns of a vintage original. Its smaller case, absent crown guards, and slender alpha hour and minute hands give it a distinctly different character from the familiar Moonwatch.

Introduced in 2012, 311.32.40.30.01.001 commemorates the privately purchased Speedmaster worn aboard Sigma 7 on October 3, 1962—the first Omega in space, seven years before the lunar landing. It is a tribute rather than a replica: sapphire replaces the original’s acrylic crystal, while the hand-wound 1861 connects it mechanically to its contemporary Moonwatch siblings.

Choose this generation for that older movement and its relatively spare dial treatment, rather than the later revival’s updated execution. One practical wrinkle is the 19mm lug spacing: strap choice takes a little more thought than with a standard Moonwatch, especially if you enjoy rotating through straps you already own.
