Speedmaster Racing

The Omega Speedmaster Racing takes the Speedmaster’s tachymeter-and-chronograph vocabulary and gives the dial a more explicitly automotive character: textured counters, sharp accents, and minute tracks that reward a closer look. It is a family rather than a single configuration, with an important divide between the compact, three-register models and the larger, two-register generation.

The 40mm Speedmaster Racing Co-Axial models introduced in 2012 use automatic caliber 3330, a column-wheel chronograph with a Co-Axial escapement and silicon balance spring. Their three subdials carry a distinctive Clous de Paris texture, while the date sits at six. Dial and accent combinations can change the mood considerably, but that patterned trio is a useful identifying feature.

The larger Speedmaster Racing 9900 generation arrived in 2017 with Master Chronometer-certified caliber 9900. Here, elapsed hours and minutes share the counter at three, leaving running seconds at nine and the date at six. The staggered racing-style minute track gives this generation its particular rhythm; the consolidated chronograph display also makes it visibly different from its three-register predecessor.
