The Omega Speedmaster Reduced brings the familiar black-dial Speedmaster look to a smaller wrist without asking you to wind it every morning. It isn’t simply a scaled-down Moonwatch: the wider spacing of its subdials and the crown sitting slightly below the pushers reveal a different mechanical arrangement beneath that familiar silhouette.

Introduced in 1988, the Reduced found its own following among enthusiasts who wanted those twisted lugs and tachymeter bezel in a more compact package. The classic 3510.50 pairs a Hesalite crystal with Arabic minute numerals around the dial; the later 3539.50 swaps in sapphire and drops those numerals for a cleaner face. Choose between them for the crystal and dial treatment, not just the age.

Its automatic movement uses a separate chronograph module, so servicing calls for someone comfortable with that construction. When trying one, run the chronograph through start, stop, and reset, watching that all three recording hands return cleanly to zero.

What owners love

  • The 39mm case gives you the Speedmaster look without the larger Moonwatch footprint. Owners with smaller wrists often find it sits comfortably rather than dominating the wrist.
  • The automatic winding is a genuine draw for people who want to wear a Speedmaster daily but don't enjoy winding one by hand. It isn't just a smaller version of the manual-wind watch; that convenience is part of why owners choose it.

Common Criticisms

  • On the classic 3510.50, the modular chronograph makes servicing more involved than the size of the watch might suggest. Owners regularly report difficulty finding independent watchmakers willing to work on the chronograph module.
  • The 3510.50's widely spaced subdials and extra minute numerals can make the dial feel busy. The crown also sits lower than the chronograph pushers, an asymmetry some owners notice once they're wearing it.
