Speedmaster Olympic

The Omega Speedmaster Olympic family brings together chronographs linked to the Games, but the Olympic connection does not prescribe a single case, dial layout, or movement. Its range runs from automatic models with five counters arranged to echo the Olympic rings to Games-specific editions built around the familiar, manually wound Speedmaster Professional.

The five-counter branch takes the most literal approach to that connection. Reference 321.33.44.52.01.001 pairs a black dial with a 44.25 mm case and the automatic Co-Axial caliber 3888. The spread of counters across the dial makes it immediately distinguishable from the usual three-register Speedmaster; this is a different mechanical proposition, not simply a Moonwatch with an Olympic emblem.

The Tokyo 2020 editions take another route: 42 mm Speedmaster Professional cases, hand-wound caliber 1861, and the established three-register layout, with dial and bezel treatments drawing on the Olympic ring colors. Here, the differences are in the detailing rather than a wholesale rearrangement of the watch. The family name therefore needs a second identifier: which Games, and which Speedmaster architecture?
