Speedmaster Gold

A gold Speedmaster keeps the chronograph’s familiar vocabulary—tachymeter scale, three registers, purposeful pushers—but gives it a different weight on the wrist and a warmer presence. The name covers more than a gold-cased Moonwatch: hand-wound Professionals sit alongside automatic models, with proportions and dial layouts that change across generations.

Omega’s gold Speedmaster story reaches back to 1969, when an 18-karat yellow-gold version marked the Apollo 11 landing. Later Speedmaster Professional models carried that idea forward, including examples powered by the hand-wound caliber 861 and caliber 1861. Their traditional three-register arrangement and external tachymeter bezel give them a close visual relationship to the steel Moonwatch, even when gold changes the whole character of the watch.

Modern Moonshine Gold Professionals use Omega’s paler yellow-gold alloy and the hand-wound, Master Chronometer-certified caliber 3861. Automatic gold Speedmasters belong to a different branch of the family; the winding system, date display where fitted, and register placement help distinguish them from the Professional line. Those differences matter more than the shared gold designation: they separate watches with genuinely different proportions and mechanical identities.
