The Omega Speedmaster 3570.50 is the Moonwatch in its familiar, unembellished form: black dial, Hesalite crystal, solid steel back, and a chronograph you wind by hand. The crystal’s soft distortion at the edge and the long white hands against that matte dial do more to explain its following than any lunar association could on its own.

Its caliber 1861 belongs to the long-running, cam-operated movement family that preceded today’s Master Chronometer Moonwatch. Early examples have tritium lume, identified by the “T SWISS MADE T” dial marking; later watches use Super-LumiNova. Choose the latter if nighttime legibility matters, or the former if you enjoy aged luminous material—but don’t assume every tritium dial will have turned creamy. On an early watch, replacement hands can leave a conspicuous mismatch in color and glow. Also make sure the chronograph hands reset cleanly to zero.
