The Omega Constellation Pie Pan turns a dial into architecture: a raised central field gives way to twelve sloping facets, catching light differently with every movement of the wrist. That geometry, paired with applied markers and the little star above six, gives these automatic chronometers their particular mix of formality and animation.

The Constellation line arrived in 1952, but the dog-leg-lug 167.005 is a particularly satisfying expression of the pie-pan design. Its no-date dial keeps the composition uninterrupted, while the automatic caliber 551 belongs to Omega’s well-regarded 500-series movement family. Pay particular attention to the dial printing: refinished examples can lose the fine lettering and carefully aligned minute track that make an original so rewarding. The angular lugs deserve equal scrutiny; heavy polishing softens their sharply defined planes. On the back, the observatory medallion adds another small pleasure, with its dome and eight stars.

What owners love

  • The stepped dial is the thing you keep looking at: the sloping outer facets and applied hour markers catch the light differently as you move your wrist. It has much more depth in person than a straight-on view suggests.
  • At 35mm, it sits neatly on the wrist without taking over. Owners who enjoy smaller watches often find that the distinctive dial gives it enough presence without needing a larger case.

Common Criticisms

  • The 35mm size can feel smaller than expected if you're accustomed to modern watches. The dial details don't necessarily make up for that if you prefer more wrist coverage.
