The Tudor Big Block gives you screw-down pushers and a distinctly taller case than its hand-wound predecessors—the extra depth that earned its nickname accommodates the automatic ETA 7750. Introduced in 1976 as Tudor’s first automatic chronograph, it arrived more than a decade before Rolex put an automatic movement in the Daytona.

For a restrained, late-generation example, start with the 79160, with its fixed tachymeter bezel, or the 79170, whose rotating 12-hour bezel adds a useful second-time-zone function. Earlier watches offer more adventurous dial designs; the colorful Exotic variants are worth exploring if the familiar contrasting-register layout feels too sober.

Rolex-signed crowns and casebacks are part of the Big Block story, not automatically evidence of mismatched parts. Dial originality deserves particular attention on the earlier variants, where the precise printing, colors, and handset are central to what makes the watch interesting.
