The Rolex GMT-Master 16753 brings steel and yellow gold to a travel watch, with the brown-dial Root Beer version giving the combination its warmest expression. Its brown-and-gold bezel looks particularly at home beside the gold crown and bracelet center links; the black-dial version offers a sharper, more restrained contrast.

This is a transitional GMT-Master: acrylic crystal above, quickset-date 3075 inside. The date adjustment makes it easier to live with than its predecessor, but the local-hour hand does not adjust independently as it does on a GMT-Master II. Early examples with raised gold nipple dial markers are worth seeking out if you love the older two-tone character; later, flatter luminous plots give a different look. Pay particular attention to the dial and hands: service replacements can change that character substantially, and luminous-material differences may explain why the two no longer age—or glow—alike.
