The Omega Speedmaster X-33 takes the astronaut’s watch in a very different direction from the Moonwatch: titanium, quartz, and an analogue-digital display built around mission timing. Introduced in 1998 with input from astronauts, it puts countdowns, alarms, and multiple time displays ahead of mechanical romance—and that unabashed practicality is precisely why enthusiasts love it.

The original generation’s polished bezel gives it an unexpectedly bright edge; the second generation switches to a brushed bezel and revised crown and pushers. Choose the first for its distinctly late-1990s character, or the second if you prefer a more subdued finish. Both retain the unusual combination of conventional hands and a central digital display.

Try the functions rather than treating this as an ordinary three-hander: confirm the LCD segments display properly, the backlight illuminates, and the alarm sounds clearly. Those electronic tools are the heart of the X-33, not incidental extras.
