The Speedmaster 3590.50 gives you the familiar Moonwatch silhouette with something newer examples don’t: a tritium dial whose luminous plots may have mellowed to cream. It’s a particularly satisfying generation if you want the traditional hesalite crystal and closed steel back, with the hand-wound 861 inside rather than the later 1861.

Produced from the late 1980s into the mid-1990s, this reference sits comfortably between vintage character and the everyday familiarity of a modern Speedmaster Professional. Original tritium dials carry “T SWISS MADE T” at six o’clock; later replacement dials can change both the look and the luminous material. Pay attention to the hands, too: replacements may glow differently from the dial, and their color needn’t match even when both are original. Creamy lume is a pleasure, not a requirement—some examples have aged much less dramatically than others.
