The Bulova Marine Star is a family rather than a single design: quartz chronographs and open-heart automatics give the name quite different personalities. What connects them is a broad-shouldered, nautical approach to the sports watch, with enough dial detail to reward a closer look.
Choose a quartz chronograph if you enjoy a dial organized around counters and timing functions; the open-heart automatic trades that instrument-panel feel for a glimpse of the movement at work. Neither is simply the newer or better Marine Star—the choice changes what you see and interact with every day. On a chronograph, make sure the hands return cleanly to zero after a reset. And don’t read the nautical name as a blanket diving credential: water-resistance ratings and bezel functions vary across the family.
