The Jaeger-LeCoultre Polaris Chronograph brings the Polaris family’s broad markers and sporty stance to a clean, two-register chronograph dial. Its attraction is in the contrasts: sharply defined hands against textured surfaces, polished accents against brushed steel, and a movement worth turning the watch over to see.

The key choice is between the original 2018 version and the update introduced in 2023. The earlier watch has no date, giving its dial a particularly uncluttered balance; the later version adds a date at six and richly shaded lacquer dials, with a different movement beneath them. Neither is simply the other in a new color. If you favor restraint, start with the original; if dial depth matters more, the update deserves attention. On either generation, the prominent lugs make the fit worth considering as carefully as the 42mm diameter.

What owners love

  • The dial rewards looking at it up close: the sunray center, grained hour-marker ring and outer tachymeter have distinctly different textures. Owners especially like how the blue version changes character with the light.
  • It wears slimmer than the 42mm diameter suggests, and owners often single out how easily it fits under a cuff. The alternating brushed and polished case surfaces keep it interesting without making it overly shiny.

Common Criticisms

  • The bracelet’s butterfly clasp has no on-the-fly micro-adjustment. Getting a comfortable fit can be frustrating if your wrist falls between sizes or swells during the day.
  • There’s no running-seconds display: both subdials are chronograph counters. Some owners miss that little sign of life and run the chronograph when they want to see a seconds hand moving.
