Citizen’s Series 8 brings sharply drawn cases, contrasting polished and brushed surfaces, and distinctly architectural dials to the Japanese sports-watch conversation. The name reaches back to 2008, but its return in 2021 as an automatic collection marks the useful dividing line for understanding the modern family: these are related designs, not one watch in different colors.

The 831 takes the most restrained route, with a straightforward date display and comparatively spare dial. The 830 is more elaborate: its layered dial combines mother-of-pearl with a metal lattice, giving the surface depth rather than simply adding decoration. The 870 makes its strongest statement around the dial, with a two-piece bezel whose contrasting finishes emphasize the case construction. Those differences matter more to the family’s character than any single shared diameter.

Later additions broaden the brief. Introduced in 2023, the 880 adds GMT functionality, including an independently adjustable local-hour hand and a two-tone 24-hour bezel. The 890, introduced in 2024, moves toward aquatic use with 200-meter water resistance and an internal rotating bezel. Its dial retains the geometric texture that helps connect these otherwise quite different watches.
