The Citizen Fujitsubo brings a wonderfully odd dive-watch story into a modern titanium case: its ancestor was a barnacle-covered Challenge Diver found on an Australian beach in 1983, still running. The nickname means “barnacle” in Japanese, but the attraction on the wrist is simpler—a restrained diver with broad hands, vintage-shaped markers, and surprisingly little weight.

The NB6021 is the starting point: the black-dial version comes on rubber, while the blue-dial version comes on a titanium bracelet. Choose black for the closest visual connection to the original; blue gives the same spare design a brighter personality. Citizen’s automatic 9051 adds useful magnetic resistance without changing the old-school appearance.

One detail worth trying for yourself is the small, partly sheltered crown. It keeps the case silhouette tidy, but can be fiddlier to grip than the oversized crowns on many modern divers—especially if you like to hand-wind your watches.
