The Citizen Promaster Diver is a dive watch you can enjoy without treating it as an occasion: clear dial, useful bezel, and, in its familiar Eco-Drive versions, no winding ritual. Much of its charm comes from that lack of ceremony, but the broad hands and crown tucked down at four o’clock give the BN0150 and BN0151 a personality of their own.

Those two references are a good starting point: the black-dial BN0150 is the quieter choice, while the blue BN0151 brings some color without sacrificing readability. Their short lugs help make the 44mm case more manageable than the diameter suggests. One specific thing to watch for is a seconds hand advancing in two-second steps: on their Eco-Drive caliber E168, that signals insufficient charge. Give it adequate light before mistaking the warning for a movement fault.

What owners love

  • Eco-Drive is the part owners tend to appreciate more the longer they wear it: accurate quartz timekeeping without routine battery changes, as long as it gets enough light. It makes an easy watch to keep in regular rotation without fussing over it.
  • The hands and hour markers are easy to pick out at a glance, and owners regularly praise the lume for staying readable through the night. On the BN0150 and BN0151, the short lugs also make the watch wear less broadly than its 44 mm diameter suggests.

Common Criticisms

  • The supplied rubber strap on the BN0150 and BN0151 gets recurring complaints for being stiff and excessively long on smaller wrists. Some owners like the watch considerably more after replacing that strap.
