The Sinn 903 gives you the densely printed dial and slide-rule calculations of a classic pilot’s chronograph, with a genuine connection to the Breitling Navitimer rather than just a passing resemblance. Its story begins in 1979, when Sinn acquired rights to the Navitimer design following Breitling’s financial collapse.
The distinction worth knowing is between the older 903 St and the newer 903 St II. The older watch adjusts its internal slide-rule ring through an extra crown at 10 o’clock; the newer generation lets you turn the bezel directly and brings a column-wheel chronograph movement. That change makes the slide rule more natural to use, even if most of its calculations now belong to the pleasure of owning it rather than the demands of flying.
On an older example, pay particular attention to that separate slide-rule control: the ring should move smoothly and align precisely with the dial’s scales.
