The Sinn 556 I family puts dial clarity first: baton markers, straight hands and a restrained minute track, framed by satin-finished steel. Yet the familiar black-dial watch is only part of the story; dial finish, seconds-hand color and movement generation give these closely related watches distinct personalities.

The standard 556 I pairs a glossy black dial with white luminous markers and a discreet date at three. The 556 I RS adds a red seconds hand without disturbing that spare arrangement. The blue-dial 556 I B takes a different direction, with a sunburst finish, applied hour markers and no date—a dressier treatment within the same practical design vocabulary.

Earlier examples commonly carry the ETA 2824-2, while later production uses the Sellita SW200-1; the sapphire display back makes that distinction visible. Both are conventional automatic workhorses rather than exotic machinery. Across these versions, the screw-down crown, luminous hands and uncluttered dial keep the emphasis on everyday use, even when the dial catches the light differently.

What owners love

  • On the standard black-dial 556 I, owners love the contrast between the glossy black dial and stark white markers. The strong antireflective coating can make the crystal almost disappear, giving that very simple dial more depth than you might expect.
  • The 38.5mm case and short lugs make it compact without feeling insubstantial. Owners often find it exceptionally comfortable for all-day wear, and the 20mm lug width makes it easy to switch between the H-link bracelet and straps.

Common Criticisms

  • The older H-link bracelet clasp is a recurring complaint: its stamped construction feels less substantial than the case and bracelet, and adjusting the fit requires a tool. This criticism applies to the older clasp, not Sinn’s newer quick-adjust version.
  • Owners of the standard black-dial 556 I often wish the lume were stronger and lasted longer. Its excellent daytime contrast doesn’t translate into equally strong overnight visibility.
