The Sinn 856 family takes the instrument-watch brief seriously: a spare, high-contrast dial backed by case technology that is less obvious than the hands and numerals. Its defining combination is TEGIMENT surface hardening, magnetic-field protection, and Sinn’s Ar-Dehumidifying Technology—a practical distinction from the brand’s simpler three-hand watches.

The regular 856 pairs a bead-blasted steel exterior with a black dial, luminous Arabic numerals, and a discreet date window between four and five. The 856 S carries that restrained layout into a black-coated case; importantly, Sinn applies the hard coating over a TEGIMENT-hardened surface. The 856 UTC adds a second-time-zone hand and its accompanying scale, making the dial busier without abandoning the family’s instrument-panel character.

Movement sourcing provides another way to distinguish generations. Three-hand examples have used the ETA 2892-A2 and, later, the Sellita SW300-1, so the family name alone does not identify the caliber. The small drying capsule visible at the case edge is another characteristic detail: its changing color indicates moisture absorption within the Ar-Dehumidifying system.
