The Rolex Sea-Dweller takes the familiar language of a Rolex diver and adds a helium escape valve, born of the demands of saturation diving. Its generations offer quite different experiences on the wrist: older 40mm models keep the proportions compact, while the modern 43mm watches bring a broader case and a magnified date.

The early 1665 pairs an acrylic crystal with either the two red lines of the Double Red dial or later white lettering. The 16660 marks a substantial technical shift: sapphire crystal, a larger helium valve, and a depth rating increased from 610 to 1,220 metres. The subsequent 16600, powered by caliber 3135, retains the aluminum bezel insert and unmagnified date that define much of the family’s traditional look.

The short-lived 116600 brings a ceramic bezel and updated bracelet to the 40mm format, still without a Cyclops. With the 126600, the case grows to 43mm, caliber 3235 takes over, and red Sea-Dweller lettering returns above six o’clock. Its Cyclops is an immediate visual dividing line; the steel-and-yellow-gold 126603 adds another, carrying that larger generation into two-tone territory.
