The Rolex GMT-Master II 116710BLNR introduced the black-and-blue ceramic bezel in 2013, earning the nickname Batman almost immediately. It was Rolex’s first two-colour ceramic bezel, but the attraction is more than that manufacturing milestone: the blue brings just enough colour to a steel GMT without overwhelming it.

This is the original Oyster-bracelet generation, replaced in 2019 by the 126710BLNR, which initially came on Jubilee. Choose the earlier reference if you prefer the Oyster’s broader links and cleaner visual rhythm, though its polished centre links make it dressier than an all-brushed sports bracelet. Inside, the 3186 lets you jump the local-hour hand independently while the 24-hour hand keeps track of home.

One detail worth confirming on a particular example is the bracelet configuration: Oyster was factory-standard here, not Jubilee. Its clasp also includes Easylink, a useful quick extension when your wrist needs a little more room.

What owners love

  • The blue half of the bezel changes noticeably with the light: subdued enough to look almost black indoors, much brighter in sunlight. Owners enjoy that bit of color without feeling they have a brightly colored watch on all day.
  • The independently adjustable local-hour hand is genuinely useful when traveling: you can change the local time without stopping the watch or disturbing the home-time setting. The date follows that local-hour hand, including when you move it backward across midnight.
  • The Oyster bracelet feels solid, and the Easylink extension makes a useful difference when your wrist swells during the day. Owners who prefer this version often specifically like its Oyster bracelet rather than the Jubilee fitted to its immediate successor.

Common Criticisms

  • The polished center links pick up hairlines easily, particularly around the clasp, and they make this otherwise sporty watch look quite shiny. This is a recurring gripe from owners who would prefer an all-brushed bracelet.
  • The broad lugs and squared-off case make it look and feel chunkier than the 40mm diameter suggests. Some owners find the case proportions less graceful than older GMT-Master II models, even when the watch fits their wrist comfortably.
