The Rolex Air-King spans two very different wrist experiences: the restrained, mostly 34mm watches of earlier decades and the assertive 40mm generation introduced in 2016. What connects them is an aviation-minded name and a preference for legibility, though the modern dial takes that idea somewhere far busier than its predecessors.

The long-running 5500 is the starting point for the older style: acrylic crystal, simple hour markers, and an uncluttered dial without a date. The 14000 brought sapphire crystal and caliber 3000; its sibling, the 14010, adds an engine-turned bezel that gives the otherwise quiet design some texture. The later 14000M moved to caliber 3130, preserving the compact proportions rather than reinventing them.

With the 116900, the Air-King changed character: 40mm, caliber 3131, magnetic shielding, and a black dial mixing large 3-6-9 numerals with a minute scale, green seconds hand, and yellow Rolex crown. The 126900, introduced in 2022, keeps that vocabulary but adds crown guards and caliber 3230. Its “05” marker balances the double-digit minute numerals, while luminous 3-6-9 markers make the revised dial more useful after dark.

$3,558 – $8,900 spread of reference medians

Each price is the median ask from one reference's own listings, and a reference needs at least five to get one. Listings that don't name a reference are left out, and nothing is blended into a family price.
