The Patek Philippe Annual Calendar Chronograph puts two genuinely useful complications together without turning the dial into a puzzle. Three calendar windows across the top and a chronograph register below give it a recognizable face, whether you prefer the busier 5960 or the more spacious 5905.

Introduced in 2006, the 5960 marked Patek’s first in-house automatic chronograph movement. Its combined hour-and-minute counter and power-reserve indicator make it the more information-rich choice. The 5905, introduced in 2015, grew from 40mm to 42mm and dropped the chronograph hour counter and power-reserve display. For a distinctly different wearing experience, the steel 5905/1A pairs an olive-green dial with a matching steel bracelet.

On a 5960, give that combined chronograph register particular attention: both elapsed-time hands should reset cleanly. Whichever reference you choose, the annual calendar recognizes 30- and 31-day months but still needs correction at the end of February.
