The Omega Seamaster Chronostop brings a stopwatch’s immediacy to a late-1960s wristwatch, with an orange timing hand and just one pusher to operate it. It measures short intervals rather than accumulating minutes or hours—a limitation that also makes it unusually direct and satisfying to use.

The manually wound caliber 865 rewards a little familiarity: press to start timing, press and hold to read the elapsed seconds, then release to reset. When choosing one, give particular attention to the timing hand and dial printing; their crisp, purposeful contrast is much of the watch’s character. The pusher deserves a proper trial, too: the hand should stop while it is held down and return cleanly to zero on release, not behave like a conventional start-stop-reset chronograph.
