Ludwig

The Nomos Ludwig gives the brand’s spare Glashütte design language a more traditional accent: Roman numerals, a railway minute track, and slender hands around an otherwise open dial. Its round case and narrow lugs keep that formality light, whether you prefer a compact hand-wound version or one of the larger automatic models.

The Ludwig was among Nomos’s original four families, introduced in 1992. Early hand-wound examples used movements based on the Peseux 7001; later watches adopted Nomos’s own Alpha caliber. That makes the movement an important generational distinction even when two dials look much alike. Small seconds remain a familiar part of the layout, while date-equipped versions add a window low on the dial.

Size changes the Ludwig’s character without changing its vocabulary: smaller cases draw the numerals together, while larger versions give the dial more breathing room. The Ludwig Neomatik branch brings thin automatic movements to the same design, but the broader family also includes earlier automatics and several hand-wound sizes. A Ludwig name alone therefore doesn’t identify the movement—or the dimensions beneath the cuff.
