The Tissot 1938 puts large Arabic numerals and a railway minute track front and center, giving an otherwise restrained dress watch a little instrument-panel character. Its other attraction is less visible: a COSC-certified ETA 2824-2, rather than the Powermatic 80 found in so many modern Tissot automatics.
The salmon-dial version is the one to seek out if you enjoy the contrast of warm dial tones and blue hands; the anthracite-dial version takes the same layout in a quieter, more monochromatic direction. Both retain the uncluttered symmetry of a dial without a date window. At 39mm, this is a modern interpretation of prewar styling, not a reproduction of prewar proportions. That distinction matters on the wrist: the open dial gives it more presence than its old-fashioned typography might suggest, so consider how much dial you like a dress watch to show.
