King Seiko is Seiko’s sharper-edged dress-watch family: crisp case planes, assertive markers, and a name that spans hand-wound vintage watches and modern automatics. The family began in 1961 at Daini Seikosha, developing alongside Grand Seiko as a separate pursuit of precision within the same company.

The early generations are worth distinguishing. The King Seiko First has a softer case profile than the angular 1965 KSK, whose broad, faceted lugs became the template for the modern revival. Vintage 44KS models are hand-wound; the 45KS adds a 36,000-beat-per-hour movement, while the 56KS takes the family into automatic winding. The Vanac branch moves away from restrained dress-watch styling toward more exuberant cases and dials.

Modern King Seiko returned as a regular collection in 2022, initially with 37mm cases and the automatic 6R31. Subsequent releases broadened the sizes and movement choices, including 6R55 and slimmer 6L35 models. Their resemblance to the KSK is deliberate, but the vintage hand-wound generations and today’s automatics offer distinctly different proportions and mechanical character.
