The Rolex Datejust 17013 is the Datejust that wears its quartz identity openly: an angular case, an integrated bracelet, and a seconds hand that advances in deliberate ticks. Its steel-and-yellow-gold construction and fluted bezel keep it recognizably Rolex, but the proportions belong to the adventurous watch design of the 1970s.

Introduced in 1977, the Oysterquartz family was built around Rolex’s own quartz movements, with the date-equipped 5035 powering this reference. Early examples have notably spare dials without the later “Superlative Chronometer Officially Certified” wording; choose those for a cleaner face, or a later example if you prefer the fuller dial treatment.

The bracelet is integral to the design, so missing links deserve particular attention: a conventional strap is no straightforward substitute. Also look for case edges that retain their definition, and establish whether any movement work included checking for battery leakage—an important distinction from servicing a mechanical Datejust.
