The Orient Mako II keeps the original Mako’s easygoing dive-watch character, but fixes its most conspicuous quirk: the separate pusher for setting the day is gone. With Arabic numerals at twelve, six, and nine, it has a familiar, slightly dressier face than its sibling, the Ray II, whose round markers lean more toward conventional diver styling.
The second generation is worth seeking out for the F6922: unlike the original Mako’s movement, it offers hand-winding and hacking, making winding and precise setting straightforward. Both calendar displays are now adjusted through the crown, so a Mako with an extra button above it belongs to the earlier generation. On a used Mako II, pay particular attention to how smoothly the screw-down crown engages and whether both calendar displays advance cleanly. The crystal is mineral rather than sapphire; a claimed sapphire example has been modified.
