The Chopard Alpine Eagle brings an unusually expressive dial to the integrated-bracelet sports watch: its radiating texture takes inspiration from an eagle’s iris, rather than a conventional sunburst. The broad bezel, paired screws and polished bracelet center links give that dial a crisp, architectural frame.

Introduced in 2019, it reinterprets Chopard’s St. Moritz of 1980 without simply reproducing it. The steel models use Chopard’s Lucent Steel alloy, whose bright appearance makes the contrast between brushed and polished surfaces particularly noticeable. Try both the 36mm and 41mm versions if you can; the integrated bracelet makes diameter alone a poor guide to how either wears.

The Alpine Eagle XPS is worth separating from the standard models. Its salmon-colored dial, small seconds and absence of a date create a quieter composition, while the micro-rotor 96.40-L movement allows a markedly slimmer case. On the standard date-equipped version, make sure the discreet window between four and five suits your eye.

What owners love

  • The iris-pattern dial is the part owners keep coming back to: its texture shifts noticeably with the light, looking restrained indoors and much more pronounced in sunlight. It rewards a second look without needing a bright dial colour.
  • On the steel versions, owners particularly like the brightness of the metal and the contrast between brushed surfaces and polished edges. The bracelet carries that finishing through, so much of the pleasure of wearing it comes from the whole watch rather than just the dial.

Common Criticisms

  • The bracelet’s butterfly clasp has no quick micro-adjustment, a recurring frustration when your wrist expands during the day. Owners can like the bracelet’s comfort and finish while still wishing they could loosen it slightly without changing links.
