The Breitling Superocean Automatic 46 is a diver for readers who want the dial to command as much attention as the case. Its size is unapologetic, but the generation matters: the newer A17378 trades the earlier watch’s large Arabic numerals for broad markers, a contrasting minute track, and a square-ended minute hand.

That newer design draws on Breitling’s 1960s Superocean “Slow Motion” chronograph, borrowing its emphasis on elapsed minutes rather than its unusual chronograph mechanism. Here, the automatic Breitling 17 keeps things straightforward. The earlier M17368, with its black-coated steel case, offers a darker, more overtly utilitarian take.
