The Breitling Colt is the less theatrical side of the brand’s instrument-watch vocabulary: clear dials, sturdy steel cases, and, on many versions, a rotating bezel with four raised rider tabs. It is a family rather than a single specification, spanning compact earlier watches, larger later generations, quartz and mechanical movements, and complications beyond a simple date.

Introduced in the 1980s with military use in mind, the Colt developed into a broad civilian collection. Earlier examples often combine smaller proportions with busy dial furniture, including an inner 24-hour scale; later generations generally give the hands and hour markers more room. Bezel treatment matters here: the familiar rider-tab design is common, but the collection also went through a markedly different generation with broader, engraved bezel numerals.

The Colt Automatic takes the mechanical route, while Colt SuperQuartz identifies Breitling’s thermocompensated quartz approach. The Colt Chronograph adds elapsed-time counters, with both quartz and mechanical versions appearing across its history. The Colt GMT brings a second-time-zone hand into the mix; Colt Ocean and Colt II are further branches, not interchangeable names for every three-hand Colt.
