The Blancpain Fifty Fathoms begins with a diver’s essentials: a legible dial, luminous markings, and a rotating bezel for tracking elapsed time underwater. Since its 1953 debut, those ingredients have carried through military-issued watches, broad-shouldered modern divers, and the more restrained Bathyscaphe branch, with no single diameter or movement defining the family.

Vintage examples have a different presence from the modern Automatique, whose 45mm incarnation arrived in 2007 with the automatic 1315 caliber and five-day power reserve. Its domed sapphire bezel gives the scale a distinctive depth, contrasting with the acrylic bezels associated with early generations. Modern Bathyscaphe models take a quieter approach: straighter case lines, smaller dial markers, and a flatter ceramic bezel insert.

The dial often tells you which direction a particular Fifty Fathoms takes. A MIL-SPEC brings the distinctive moisture indicator into view; a Grande Date emphasizes the calendar display. The Chronographe Flyback and Bathyscaphe Flyback Chronograph add elapsed-time counters, while the Bathyscaphe Quantième Complet pairs day, date, and month indications with a moonphase.

$9,950 – $21,977 spread of reference medians

Each price is the median ask from one reference's own listings, and a reference needs at least five to get one. Listings that don't name a reference are left out, and nothing is blended into a family price.
