The Blancpain Fifty Fathoms Bathyscaphe Flyback Chronograph puts a genuinely sophisticated chronograph inside a dive watch with unusually restrained styling. Its attraction is the contrast: plain baton markers and broad hands up front, a fast-beating F385 visible through the back.

Introduced in 2014, it brought a flyback chronograph to the revived Bathyscaphe line. The movement runs at 5Hz, and the flyback lets you reset and restart timing with one press rather than three separate actions. More unusually, Blancpain designed the chronograph pushers to operate underwater—not merely survive immersion.

The steel 5200-1110-B52A is the more traditional choice; the black-ceramic 5200-0130-B52A gives the same design a quieter, darker presence. At 43.6mm, neither is a discreetly sized Bathyscaphe, so fit matters more than the restrained dial suggests. On the ceramic version, pay particular attention to the lug edges: ceramic resists scratches well, but sharp impacts can chip it.
