For your consideration today is this stunning, and relatively elusive Aventurine dial variant (arguably the most unique and sought-after) of the SMITHS PRS-54 Trans-global. SMITHS has a great pedigree as a British watch manufacturer dating back to 1851. The brand fell on hard times during the quartz crisis in the mid-20th century, until being revived by current owner and manufacturer Timefactors in 1996. This is a catch-and-release for me as the Aventurine dial – while absolutely radiant and hard to really do justice on camera – simply wasn’t my style. The watch is BNIB, never worn with its original box, warranty card, and stickers still attached (removed crystal and caseback stickers for photos). **A brief history of this particularly interesting model:** In the 1950s, Scandinavian Airline Systems (SAS) were flying transatlantic and to reduce the duration of the flight, flew directly over the North Pole. The high magnetic fields encountered over the North Pole played havoc with the timekeeping systems of the aircraft and crew, leading the airline to approach Universal Geneve to manufacture a wristwatch with high anti-magnetic properties; this watch became known as the “Polerouter” (although originally called “Polarouter”). The Polerouter was designed by a then 23-year-old Gerald Genta who is perhaps more well-known for designing the Audemars Piguet Royal Oak. It was manufactured from 1954 – 1969. The Smiths Trans-global is a modern take on this design with a 38mm diameter case (the Polerouter was originally 34.5mm), sapphire crystal, screw-down crown, screw back. Water resistance rating of 100 metres and an anti-magnetic rating of 20,000 A/m. **Watch Specs:** • Movement: 24-jewel automatic Miyota 9039 - 28,800 BPH •Case: Polished 316L stainless steel • Diameter: 38mm - 41mm including crown • Lug to lug: 46.75mm • Thickness: 12.3mm • Anti-magnetism: 20,000 A/m / 251 Gauss • Water Resistance: 10ATM / 100m / 330 feet • Crown: Screw back, screw down • Crystal: Domed Sapphire, 35mm with anti-reflective coating on the underside • Dial: Aventurine with silver polished hands and applied indices • Bracelet: Solid link stainless steel Beads of Rice with screwed links, solid end links and adjustable signed push-button clasp **ALBUM:** [https://imgur.com/a/EHGTHDj](https://imgur.com/a/EHGTHDj) **TIMESTAMP:** [https://imgur.com/a/m0MMU0s](https://imgur.com/a/m0MMU0s) **PRICE:** $650, loosely negotiable. Comparable listings on Chrono24 in the $685-800 range excluding shipping. Strong preference for a cash sale, but open to reasonable trade offers from users with established transaction history. Mostly looking to trade up (adding cash) for a Farer Moonphase or various Longines/Tudor/Omega models. When PMing a trade offer, please include a trade value for your watch. Price includes CONUS priority USPS shipping, tracked with full insurance. Local pickup in the Boston area available. Preferred payment method is Paypal F&F. As always happy to answer any questions or share additional photos with interested buyers. Thanks for looking!
