The Speedmaster Mark 3 is an important piece of history for Omega – it was both the first automatic Speedmaster and the first Speedmaster to include a date. The watch is powered by the Omega 1040, which is based on the Lemania 1340. Serial dates it to 1972. **Condition:** Good. The case is in very good condition, with only a few scratches here and there. The dial has some aging, but overall it’s in excellent shape. The crown has a large dent, but it works perfectly. The bracelet fits a wrist of up to 6.6 inches. See detailed photos for full condition and clarity. **Case Size:** 41 x 51.6mm stainless steel case with a thickness of 16.5mm. **Crystal:** Mineral **Movement:** Omega 1040, automatic, 17 jewels, with a beat rate of 28,880 bph, and a power reserve of 40 hours. I got it from a very skilled watchmaker, but I’m unsure of its service history. Everything works perfectly. **Price:** Asking $2,300. Please add $120 for worldwide shipping. Founded at La Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland in 1848 by 23-year-old Louis Brandt who assembled key-wound precision pocket watches from parts supplied by local craftsmen. He travelled throughout Europe selling his watches from Italy to Scandinavia by way of England, his chief market. After Louis Brandt's death in 1879, his two sons Louis-Paul and Cesar, troubled by irregular deliveries of questionable quality, abandoned the unsatisfactory assembly workshop system in favour of in-house manufacturing and total production control. Due to the greater supply of manpower, communications and energy in Bienne, the enterprise moved into a small factory in January 1880, then bought the entire building in December. Two years later the company moved into a converted spinning-factory in the Gurzelen district of Bienne, where headquarters are still situated today. Their first series-produced calibres, Labrador and Gurzelen, as well as, the famous Omega calibre of 1894, would ensure the brand's marketing success.
