Hi everyone! Today we’ve got a great International Watch Company (IWC) Schaffhausen gentleman’s wristwatch, ca 1922, in the original 14k cushion case. This fully-signed 17-jewel movement is a lovely example of IWC’s highest-quality workmanship, with gold chatons, screwed-in center chaton, and Côtes de Geneve finish. It is adjusted to three positions (most IWC watches at the time were only adjusted to two), and is housed in the original, signed 14k Cresarrow case. (To avoid high import duty on complete watches, Tiffany would purchase movements directly from high-quality Swiss makers such as Patek, Agassiz, C. H. Meylan and International. They would have them cased by the best American case-maker, Cresarrow, whose touch-mark is a crescent moon pierced by an arrow. I have even seen IWC watches where the movements themselves were labeled as by Cresarrow, so clearly the relationship was a close one.) The movement is numbered 755,228, near the end of the period from 1914-1924, when the published range of numbers was 600,000-800,000. This watch was purchased from an elderly watchmaker’s personal collection, and it runs and winds fine (but would no doubt benefit from a good cleaning after many years in his collection). The un-marked silvered sunburst dial has clearly been professionally re-finished and re-lumed, as have the original cathedral-style hands. Asking $575 shipped flat rate!
