[WTS] Seiko Alpinist SPB123 Up for sale is my Seiko Alpinist SPB123. I’m asking for $525, PayPal please. I will cover shipping in CONUS up to $25. Watch will come with all that you see in the picture: Seiko box, strap, and of course, the watch. To my knowledge, I am the second owner of this piece. I’d rate condition an 8/10; micro scratches on the polished sides and under lugs where strap changes have taken a slight toll, but overall good. I had a hard time capturing them in pictures, but I think what you see captures the overall condition of the watch pretty well. To my eye, nothing’s out of the ordinary or overly grotesque and offensive from a wear point of view. I really love the Alpinist and would love to own one again in the future. But I think in the end I didn’t love the colorway of this one as much as I expected to; I don’t think I’m a champagne dial kind of guy. I don’t like that it didn’t have a bracelet either (see below) and I wasn’t ready to throw $100 at a watch color way I may not like anyway, even with the bracelet. It’s time to give this guy a new home. Watch is pictured here on my slightly larger than 7” wrist. Dimensions (stolen from the JOMW review of this watch): Diameter: 39.5mm Thickness: 13.3mm Lug to Lug: 47mm Lug Width: 20mm Weight: 83g Sapphire crystal with cyclops Movement: 6R35; 70 hour power reserve. 24 jewel, hacking, handwinding, beats at 3Hz/21,600vph. Tolerances out of factory are -15 to +25 spd (thanks, Seiko). Mine is generally running anywhere from +7 to +10 spd, last time I checked. Water resistance: 200m with screw-down crown (4 o’clock is not screw down) Pros: -70 hour power reserve is handy if you’re rotating out a lot of watches on a regular basis. -6R35 movement runs pretty well; I’m generally getting within 10 seconds a day, often closer to +6 or 7. I know many have been critical of the 6R movements (and rightly so, considering Seiko refuses to spec them in the same range as comparable Swiss movements), but I’ve had no problems here. -A truly unique watch. There’s honestly nothing on the market right now like the Seiko Alpinist, and if this color way speaks to you, here’s a chance to get in well below the $725 retail. I don’t think it’s overselling it to say the Alpinist is an icon and cult classic. This watch was an online exclusive and to my knowledge is no longer in production. -Beautiful looks mean this is a super versatile watch; in my time owning it I have worn it on a hike and to anniversary dinner with my wife at a fancy steakhouse and everything in between. I know we’re all degenerate watch collectors who have a billion of these things, but this truly is (to me, at least) a one-watch collection type of watch… if you like to pretend you could ever be that guy or gal. -200m water resistance means this thing can join you pretty much anywhere. -Totally subjective, but I really like the sloping case shape. Very elegant and beautiful. Cons: -I’m a bracelet guy, and I’m bummed there is no bracelet here. Of course great options are available aftermarket with Uncle Seiko and Strapcode, but I never wanted to ante up the requisite $100 or so to grab one. -Legibility is not the greatest; gold indices on a champagne dial don’t sit out super well. -The lume is good and well applied, but you’re only getting the hands and small dots at each index, which is a little disappointing. -This being a newer generation Alpinist, the ever-controversial cyclops is here. Generally opinions run from “I don’t mind it” to “I hate it,” so if that’s a con for you I share it here. -Kind of on the same wavelength as the cyclops, I’m not a fan of the whole backwards strap thing Seiko does with these. Someone told me it’s how they wear them in Japan, but it’s just never looked right to my eye. The strap itself is actually pretty good for a stock standard, and I think the deployant clasp is cool, but again, I just can’t get over the backwards strap thing. Feel free to touch base with any questions. I know I don’t have a lot of ratings on here, but have a 100% feedback rating with over 30 transactions on eBay (wblackburn) if you’d like to check out for yourself.
