In 1972, Kim Il Sung, the great leader of North Korea, ordered the party leadership to the production of watches, as local economic stimulance, and Swiss watch components (and technology) were purchased from George von Burg. The North Koreans reengineered the Swiss works and the result is a modified Semag ES95 movement. This certainly won't win any beauty contests, but today I offer this '79 Moranbong watch, translated as 'Peony Peak,' named after the central park in Pyongyang, North Korea. This piece is very rare; maybe once or twice in a year a wristwatch like this comes on the Western market. The only way they make their way out of the DPRK is by high officials and athetles who are allowed to leave the country: they then sell the piece. More info here: [https://www.nytimes.com/2019/11/22/fashion/north-korea-watches-moranbong.html](https://www.nytimes.com/2019/11/22/fashion/north-korea-watches-moranbong.html) Diameter: 36mm (excluding wheel) Year: 1979 Produced in Pyongyang! Works perfectly! Price: starting from 250€, excluding shipping (from EU to US: UPS30$)
