A racing machine on the wrist. The ’60s represented an illustrious era in Japanese watchmaking which brought forth some of the finest watches from King Seiko. In the technical rivalry between Suwa and Daini Seikosha, the latter produced a masterpiece in the form of the Caliber 4502A. Regarded as one of the finest calibers by Seiko, the 45 series movements were the last of its kind to be hand assembled at the Daini factory located in Tokyo. A frequency of 36,000 vibrations per hour - a technical feat still to this day, was powered by a large balance wheel coupled with an extra strong mainspring and unique gear train. The Cal. 4502A represented a variant of the manual-wound base movement, featuring an instantaneous date change.  The case featured sharp lines throughout that embodied the ethos of Taro Tanaka’s Grammar of Design, with prominent lugs that resulted in a sleek, fluid form. That same design language was reflected in the white sunburst  dial, contrasted against rhodium coated markers and black striped hands.  An exceptional piece of superior Japanese watchmaking, now available.  ***Condition Report*** This King Seiko 4502-7001 is in good, unpolished condition. There are wear marks which is consistent with a watch of its age. The dial has developed a warm patina in a tone vaguely reminiscent of salmon pink. The crown is firm with no wobble and the winding action is smooth.  This watch is powered by the manual-wound 4502A movement. The quickset date and hacking functions well.
