Hi there folks! Up for sale is another classic vintage Seiko diver, the 6309-7049 “Turtle”. This watch joins an excellent line of vintage Seiko divers that set the stage for the myriad divers that they have released today. These are getting more and more collectible but are still an affordable way to enjoy a cool vintage watch with legitimate history & lineage in the dive watch space. Condition wise this example has normal vintage wear. There are no major dents or dings in the case, just very light ones from daily wear. The bezel insert is 95% with only a tiny micro flaw between the 34 and 35 minute markers. The original crystal has some scratches and a nick near 9 oclock, and there are a few specks of dust sealed up underneath it. The quickset date changes normally, bezel action is buttery, crown screws down tight. No waterproof history but it was apparently serviced by a local Carolina watch shop a few years ago. The watch comes in a nice fur lined Uncle Seiko 2 watch leather pouch and includes an additional Seiko style rubber strap along with an olive HELM canvas strap. The company was founded in 1881, when Kintarō Hattori opened a watch and jewelry shop called "K. Hattori" (服部時計店 Hattori Tokeiten?) in the Ginza area of Tokyo, Japan. Eleven years later, in 1892, he began to produce clocks under the name Seikosha (精工舎 Seikōsha?), meaning roughly "House of Exquisite Workmanship". According to Seiko's official company history, titled "A Journey In Time: The Remarkable Story of Seiko" (2003), Seiko is a Japanese word meaning "exquisite" or "success" ("exquisite" is usually written 精巧 from Chinese jīngqiǎo, while the meaning "success" is usually written 成功 from Chinese chénggōng).

Seiko is perhaps best known for its wristwatches, all of which were at one time produced entirely in-house. This includes not only major items such as microgears, motors, hands, crystal oscillators, batteries, sensors, LCDs but also minor items such as the oils used in lubricating the watches and the luminous compounds used on the hands and the dials.
