For sale is this wonderful 1960s Universal Geneve chronograph. Details and pictures below, but the “headline” is the huge size of the case, 38mm not including the crown. Wears like a much more modern piece due to that very, very unusual size in the world of vintage UG.

The reference is 22704, the straight lug and much larger cousin of the more common and smaller 22705, a twisted lug reference that’s “only” 35mm.

This example is in great shape, and fully original right down to its signed (and correct) UG crown, and even its “U”signed crystal (pictured below). The dial shows some very light patina, and one small spot in the bottom subdial just below of the “D” in Duray, a Belgian watch and jewelry retailer at the time. The front and sides of the case are in very nice shape, as are the pump pushers that work perfectly to reset the chrono sweep hand. The back of the case shows some scratches, but the reference and serial numbers remain visible (and are now protected under a case back sticker). I’m reluctant to say the case has never been polished (note the sharp edges of the lugs, both top and bottom) as I cannot be certain, but either way it’s a very sharp case that shows some honest wear.

The movement, also very clean, is Caliber 130, UG’s in-house version of the famous Valjoux 72. Runs great, and although I haven’t had it serviced or timed since I acquired it last year, I’ve had no issues at all.
The only reason I’m selling this is to make room for some special new pieces in my collection.
