Hi everyone selling a piece of history today is the Seiko 6117-6400 World Timer from exactly 1970 (waterproof caseback + error bezel). Condition: The bad: The watch has a mark/patina/stain in the middle of the dial. The dial maintains great legibility and doesn't have any other marks besides the big one in the middle (no fading of the lettering on the dial or the bezel). The watch has some very slight/light hairline scratches from normal use. The Good: The case is in superb condition especially considering its age(55+ yr old) with no deep scratches, marks or dents and still has its sharp edges.Then crystal is without marks or scratches and so is the bezel that shows no signs of fading. Also good: the dial is only stained in the center the lettering and such is spotless. An ideal dial for a touch-up by a professional. Functionality The watch uses automatic winding and has no trouble winding and is keeping good time and all functions like date change, GMT and rotating the bezel operate without any issue or flaw. Forgot to add the photos of the movement: https://www.reddit.com/u/Ezodan/s/B3aFwlxwzs History: This specific watch dates back to august 1970 and because of this still has 'WATERPROOF' on the caseback, watches from 1971 and later have 'water resist(ant)' due to changes in (US) regulations at the time. That's not the only historical thing about this watch, the watch has the world timer bezel known as the 'error bezel' , an intended error though, London and GMT are placed beside each other instead of on top of each other. This is due to an experiment with British standard time that lasted only a few years. Replacement (not Seiko) dials: There are replacement dials available, they are great and almost look exactly like the real thing. In fact if you look at recent sales on ebay and what is for sale you will quickly notice most of the watches being sold have a fake Seiko dial, some saying nothing about it, others pretending it's a re-painted original dial. These can be easily spotted if you know the 1 minor flaw they all possess: This model (6117-6400 white dial) has a dial with the dial code 6117-6420 , the dial code 6117-6400 is the dial code used exclusively for a black dial (and the non-seiko white replacement dials as you just learned or already knew of). I'm selling it with the original dial for the buyer to decide whether they want to keep it original or maybe professionally clean it up (or get a replacement). I personally kinda liked the spot on the dial but it's priced low enough to get a replacement dial with it and still be below market. $379 shipping and insurance is included in the price.
